Sawadee kha!

A Canon SD980 IS may be worth considering for you. Small, within your budget, best wide angle for a compact with decent zoom. However it does not have an eyefinder and will force you to use the LCD in the back which may be better for images since compact cameras are really bad with viewfinders anyways.

But here are a few sample images so you can decide if its the right camera for you: http://www.flickr.com/search/?ss=2&w...D980+IS&m=text

Hadn't though about others who might want the images after I pass on. Thank you opening my eyes. I now realize I need to get the better of the two cameras I was considering.

My favorite photograph is usually the next one I'm going to take. I keep the old ones more for the memories they invoke then the image. Strange as it sounds, I think my old 640 x 480s do a better job at evoking memories than my film shots from the same era. The prints from film look as good as when they were new. The small digital images have taken on an impressionistic quality because my expectation for digital photo quality on screen is now so much higher. But I'm pretty sure most others don't see it that way.
