leice are not 4/3 they make some 4/3 and m4/3 lenses. The M9 is a FF camera, and the x1 is aps-c, and the S is medium format.

Thank u shoturtle,
I thought they made 4/3's,thank u for correcting me.Anyways what do U think abt Leica D-Lux 5/4,V-lux 2, X1 ? The rest r way 2 xpensive. Do the lux 4&5 have the Pani lx5 sensor? Is the performance any better than S95/G12,LX5 etc? And the v-lux 2 is it better than the rest of the bridge cameras around?

the dlux are rebadge panasonic lx5 and lx3. If you go that route, same the money and get the panasonic. they are 1/1.63 sensors like the s95 and G12

well IQ are all about the same with the 12mp-18mp aps-c camera. The difference form the 600-700 range and the 900-1000 range is features. So that question can not answered by the price.

I being a novice in photography am a bit confused regarding what parts of a camera r resposible for picture quality ? I see Canon as the best mid-level DSLR on this forum. My favorite is the Pentax K-r. It is generally accepted that a small sensor with more mega pix doesn't capture the image quality of a large sensor with lessor mp's. ( talking abt general IQ including low light conditions). The Canon has a slightly smaller sensor and much more mega pix(18mp) than the Pentax(12mp).The Pentax is faster too. Yet the Canon is rated higher? Why? Is their lens quality/processor so much better?

You have the lens, the biggest part, then the sensor, then the processor. They are play into the final product. Some company uses a much smaller 4/3 sensor then either aps-c format, and gives you a end product that is outstanding. But 4/3 do suffer above 1600iso. Now the canon 1.6x vs the other brands 1.5x are very close in size. Canon does show a bit more nosie at above 3200iso but canon seems to like to keep pixel sharpness their big thing over noise, while pentax goes after nosie big time, and are the cleanest at the higher iso. Each company has a different processing philosophy. That is why I said their IQ at the end are very close. As all the camera produce great photos.
