Here's another handheld photo I took with the SX30 five days ago. I wouldn't say it blew me away, but I was very impressed by the image stabilization.

Again, the top photo is a 1024x768 resize and the next photo is a 100% crop of the original.

I definitely prefer Canon's handling of noise over most other manufacturers but for video, I would go with a CMOS-based camera.

Encouragement appreciated, but I was only trying to "illustrate" how well the SX30's IS was for handheld shots with long zoom and low light. On both of these shots, I just pointed the camera in the general direction, zoomed in to frame the subject, and snapped the photo. I didn't as much as exhale and hold my breath - I especially didn't make any effort to take a photo I'd be proud of. I never had a camera that could do that back in my SLR days, so it caught me completely by surprise. I have no idea what it would look like if I actually tried to make a good photo...
