I'd like to throw in the current ovf vs evf here. suppose it's darkish. you want to use the flash. so you're set to 1/100 or so at maybe f4 just as an example. with ovf it's no problem, you see as well as your eye can see. with evf, what happens? does the viewfinder gain up to some standard of brightness? or does it look dark? if it does get bright enough to be useful. does it create "night blindness" in one eye?

another, to me a deal-breaker, is that 2 function control dial. read about how it works sin manual mode and imagine yourself doing that in a nightclub scene.

Why i picked these 4 cameras? Because of the price. I am a noob in this field and that's why i made this post, to find more info and to find help.
I compared all the cameras on www.snapsort.com and Pentax kx wins.
Would be nice if some one would tell me: "buy this this and this, If you dont have enough money .. buy this".
BTW i have around 400Euro to spend.

just reading about panasonic's cause you brought them up and there are questions about their low light focus capability. in a night club you probably want to turn off the af-assist. i'd check how that affects the af capability. and how easy they are to focus manually.

my best suggestion: after this give and take runs it's course, borrow or rent one and try it out.

Evening,

The question of a refurbished vs used Kx is one of timing. About a month or so ago, several retailers had refurbished K20D units for sale (with the kit lens) for $499 + shipping. These appear to be gone, but may be back. This last time was about the second or third opportunity to come by and they tend to be a couple of months apart.

The Kx is still apparently in production, and if you google "refurbished pentax k-x", you will see that the KX has also had a couple of batches of refurbished units come and go. You just need to watch and wait. It might be next week or a couple of months from now - only Pentax knows what and when they will do something.

Used units then to go on sale on the Pentax Forum's Market place..
You also need to watch and wait on the market place as they are not constantly available.

The difference between refurbished and used is that refurbished units are brought up to new specs in the factory and usually come with a 90 day warranty. Used - you take your chances, however most folks on the Pentax Forum then to take care of their equipment - however, your mileage may vary....

With the holidays here, you might find a sale on new units for the same price as what refurbished ones tend to go for...
