Sorry, no Costco in area - isn't ZS5 the retail version w/o GPS? I was almost set to buy the ZS7 online (Blue) at $249 but Walmart just ran a sale on the Nikon S8100 for $219 and free ship before Christmas. Decisions, decisions...

Again thanks for all your help!

I don't recall the exact differences but the ZS5 loses bit more than the GPS for certain.

It also loses the AVCHD Lite (720p video in smaller file size) video and the higher resolution LCD. The ZS6 (Costco) has the higher resolution LCD but not the AVCHD Lite video or GPS.

Costco has a great online website, and you can return to the retail stores.

From projected use you mentioned in your first post, I'd lean toward the ZS7 unless unflashed indoor shots are a priority to you. The ZS7 does very well in good light and has a superior zoom to the S8100. If low light is a priority, I'd give the edge to the S8100.

I only mentioned the ZS6 in hopes ou could handle one. I wouldn't recommend it at all considering the deals readily available on a ZS7. I have seen the ZS7 go as low as $207 in the last couple months and it's regularly available for at the $239 price.

Costco's website has the ZS6 on sale at $219 through December 26th.

Hi all,

No Costco, sorry Sarah, though I think the $219 price is for the ZS6 not 7, I was sort of in hopes with your message as my kid has membership and might stop in Denver on way home, alas...

FiveO, best I've seen is your $239 at 6th Ave w/coupon (thank you) for the black version colored ones are a bit more, though but I'm partial to blue. At this point, I'm probably stuck getting one before Christmas, unless my son finds one in Denver.

I truly appreciate everyone's help - Nwtim, FiveO, Mtnclimber! You've been great and the suggestions/support/analysis FANTASTIC!
Have a wonderful Holiday - Merry Christmas to ALL!

Dave

Hi all,

The "kid" (26 year old son) was able to find me a Panasonic Lumix ZS7 in Denver at Ultimate Electronics for $ 250 plus tax (in Silver) !

Again my appreciation to all of you for your thoughtful comments and assistance to me in this endeavor!

I look forward to taking some amazing (for me at least) pictures and to have a Camera that serves my needs for several years!

Thanks again for all the input/suggestions/support and help!

Warmly,

Dave - Archivist
