Thanks for your input. I am still leaning toward the HX1 (for the IQ and panoramic) but the FZ100 is in play (because of the better video and articulated screen - also sample pictures I've seen look ok and I have a Viera television). I guess I'll just wait until after Christmas and see which sale knocks my socks off.

Quick question. Are both the HX1 and the FZ100 Vista compatible?

Not sure what you mean? Are you asking if the manufacturer's software works on Vista or whether not Vista will recognize the devices? The answer to the latter is yes. To the former, I am not sure but I would image the software would work fine.

It was the latter. Thanks.

Does anybody think it's going to make much difference that the FZ100 can save images in RAW format while the others do not?

Tim-

Based on my experience, few FZ100 users will make use of the RAW option. Due the inherent design of the SX30, RAW is a way to overcome some of the SX30 glitches.

Canon SX30 doesn't have the RAW option available, but with the CHDK upload it can...

The HX1 gets far less attention, but it is no slouch, with 20X optical zoom, and some very unique features like Sweep Panorama, and Hand Held Twilight Mode that produces better higher ISO photos than the SX30, FZ18, FZ40, or FZ100.

Here is a photo sample from the HX1:

Thanks for everyone's help. I ordered the HX1 today! I think I'll be a satisfied customer.

And the Bears just won!

ardee-

Congratulations on your new Sony HX1. Enjoy, and post some photos when you have a chance.
