Default Good cheap superzoom

Hello to all, I am new go this forum although been reading it for a few weeks. I know nothing about photogaphy except the very basic point, see i looks nices and shoot. I am researching about a camera for my wife. She loves bird on the ocean, a few pics from ships and of course the grandkids. A long zoom easy to use and i guess fast to keep up with the kids and birds. Tops 250 best under 200 greatly appreciated..

Kodak Z915-10X optical zoom at $103.95

Canon SX130-12X optical zoom at $179.00

Panasonic FZ-35-18X optical zoom at $259.95

Kodak Z981-24X optical zoom at $197.94

All at Amazon. My first choice is the SX130, or the FZ35.

How about the fuji s1800 or the other one? How good is the kodak z981? Since i dont understand zoom ranges, is the canon enough? The panasonic looks great but is a little more than want to spend unless it is really much much better..

Please pass up the Fuji S1800. It has only marginal reviews and many unhappy owners. The Canon SX130 is a much better choice.

Personally I do believe the FZ35 is a much better camera than the other models. Also, 18x vs. 12x zoom makes a huge difference in terms of reach, specially when photographing birds.

If price is an issue, Amazon has the Kodak Z981, a 24X optical zoom camera for $179.

Here is a Z981 macro or close-up photo sample:

Here is an informal portrait from the Z981:

Thank you, so you do recommend the kodak z981? Or by spending a little more could get a better one?

If money is the issue the Z981 is a good daytime camera. Another choice at that same $179 price is the Canon SX130, but is is only a 12X optical zoom camera.

But if you could spend a bit more , the Panasonic FZ35 (18X) would repay you handsomely with its image quality. The final decision is yours.

Merry Christmas.
