Still a way off buying but I think I've decided on the Sony SLT-55 which seems to give great pictures, have good low-light capability and that 10 fps burst and the fast focussing etc. looks like I shouldn't ever be able to blame the camera for a bad shot.

Close runners up were: Nikon D3100/D5000, Pentax K-r, Sony A580/NEX5, Canon 550D/T2i. Nikon lost out on the poor display and lack of in-body stabilisation, the rest I think I would have been happy with but I was finally swayed by the speed and accuracy of the new auto-focus system on the A55.

Next step is to look at lenses and watch the prices over the next 6 months...
