Pentax does make more advanced cameras than the Kx, including the new K5, which dpreview rated very highly. So I wouldn't rule out Pentax just because you might upgrade in a few years - Pentax does make some really outstanding cameras. The one exception would be someone who wants to go to a full frame camera. Since all of them are significantly heavier, to the point I can't comfortably shoot one hand-held for very long and would DEFINITELY not want to carry one all day while playing tourist, I have no desire to go there.

Default Result : Got a d3100

So after going down to the store, I found that the weight difference between the cameras in my hand was substantial - even though the listed difference is quite small.

The d3100 is the lightest and easiest to hold in my hand so I got it!

It seems to be a great camera and I already love the (few) photographs I have taken with it.

Thanks for all the help guys!

The d3100 does not shoot ev brackets, that could be a concern as well. But if video is your thing the T2i does trump both the camera with canon's better HD deployment.
