Default Best dual purpose

I am looking for a good camera for both video and still pics

I recently got the SD700 (panasonic) and while video is unbeaten, stills are horrid, especially indoors/using flash

I used to use a Sanyo HD2000, but it recently broke, any advise on good replacements ?

We do more pictures than videos FYI

The HS700 looks like it has pretty good stills but you'll have to choose what your priority is. No camcorder at this price level is going to provide the still quality of a camera and no camera at this price level is going to provide the video quality of a camcorder. However, I think cameras comparably do better video than camcorders do stills.

What's your budget? How big of a camera are you looking for?

My budget is up to 1k, I'd like something easily portable but no need to be pocketcam

Well you could get something like the Panasonic GH2 if you go that high but you could also get a camera (for less than half that) like the Panasonic LX5 if 720p is ok.
