Default Canon 1000D+IS 55mm Kit lens+50mm 1/1.8f prime lens!!!

well im looking for a budget (or cheapest) dslr
i was looking at my options and then narrowed them down to 1000D which comes with an IS 55mm kit lens
how u guys see this as its 2008 release and 1100D is also around the corner but due to my location (pakistan) and 2ndly local market trend i dnt think so that it will be any cheaper for me

i have no other options
500d costs too much if some one has an idea of prices then he can co-relate
Canon 1000D costs 43000 pak rupees = 501 US $
Nikon D3000 costs 48000 pak rupees = 559 US $
Nikon D3100 costs 58000 pak rupee = 676 US $
Canon 500D costs 70000 Pak rupee = 815 US $

so as my budget was 500$ or slightly more than that so 1000D was the only deal i was able to think about

it comes with IS kit lens same as any where else in the world
and i will add a 50mm prime canon lens later on for next few months ... this will be my basic dslr package ...

what i shoot well leme get the camera n try my skills on it with kit lens and then prime lens after that ill find out which is my strongest area
at the moment im more into landscape and night photography for which this is not an ideal thing but atleast i can start from ist step n then climbb upwards

any objections
any cons in 1000D
any pros which some one can mention to motivate me more

if not 1000D my next option would be 3100D but after few months of savings ...
but lets consider n concentrate on 1000D as my ist option RIGHT NOW
or D3100 in worst case scenario (as i have done little to no research on that cam as it was way out of my budget range)

well
so no one is interested to help me out or i have asked something beyond their capabilities lol
point is i wana spend on some thing around which i can build a system ... i dnt wana ride two boats from time to time ... switch to canon n then to nikon after few months ...
canon being low in specs but can support wider types of lenses (thats what i have concluded)
but at the same time ... nikon has better features which come for xtra price but again not backward compatible ... (for few lenses due to absence of af motor)
so?????
there is not even one guy here who can suggest me on steves

Be patience, some are out shooting today. Cold but very crisp and clear in the NE US. And partying last night as it was friday.

I would go with the 500D if you can afford the higher price. It has the better AF system over the 1000D, 3100D, and 3000D.

But the 1000D is the better option then the nikon if you are on a tight budget and want a fast prime lens. The EF 50 1.8 is a good little prime and very cheap. It will give you some nice shallow dof.

The d3100 is new, and has some nice features, but i you want to add a fast prime. The AF-s 35 1.8 is about 180 dollar. So it is a more expensive setup in the long term also if you have a tight budget.

And the kit lens is fine, it is pretty sharp and good for general uses. For general uses the 1000D is a good camera, and will give you much nicer photos the any magazoom or bridge camera. The ef-s 18-55 IS I have though I have some better lenses. It is light and easy to travel with.

If you can I would go with the 450D if that is an option. It is just a bit better and has the AF form the 500D

well 500d is out of question too expensive .. more than d3100
2ndly yes had hd video been my choice or point of concern then ... i would have made a budget which fits such cams into that budget (like d3100 or 500/550d)
but since im very tight on budget so ...
about 450d well for this ill have to look into slightly used bodies ...
n then adding a 18-55mm IS lens which comes with it ... but ill have to get it separately ...
well for a ist timer ... boardig one boat or anothr is most important ... so how u look into it ...
i know the THREE buying criteria ... but im a lone guy who has this hobby among my friends ... so cancel it out ... apart from that how should i choose between the two ...
i think canon has more variety of lenses n no body in my dslr hunt has the problem of no AF motor ... so choices of lenses can be very easy for me as compared to d3100 n other such nikon models

one point though ... is it wise to buy 1000d in this time frame when it is almost 3 yrs old??? (2.5 to be exact)????

Think canon is rumor to have a replacement coming out the 1100D. So it might get discounted even more. It is not a bad general photography camera. It just does not have as much bells an whistles as more modern dslr. I have friends that has them as back up bodies for the 7d, and 50d. And it still takes nice photos. Just work within it's limits and it will do a fine job. If you need a budget dslr. It is a very good option, better then the d3000 imho.

the 1000d goes up agains the d3000 and the sony a230 or a290. The d3100 will most likely be targeted with the 1100d when it comes out.

The 500d goes up against the d5000. 550D goes at the d90. That is pretty much how they kinda break down if you look at it base on price and preformance in the entry level consumer bodies.

The XS is the 1000d, and a better camera then the XTi that is the 400D. I would go with a current model over a older model. But they all have the older design sensor. And they do not preform as well. The 1000D/xs does shoot well up the 1600iso limit. The 20D does get noise around 800iso.
