Default Camera broke today :( need advice...

My Canon S2 IS quit today, it's been a great camera!
I am looking for a new camera with a great optical zoom lense AND the ability to shoot using an optical viewfinder (so I don't have to find my glasses all the time!).
I saw the Nikon s8100, it looked great until I noticed no viewfinder.
I want to spend up to $275.
Any suggestions?

Cute picture! I wish I could advise you but I don't know much about that range of prices. But there are lots of people here who do know.

I have never used the S2, but it seems to be a bridge camera with
an electronic LCD viewfinder. Maybe you could replace it with
something from the Canon SX or Panasonic FZ ranges.

Panasonic FZ meets the great zoom lens requirement. They have
a reasonably good electronic viewfinder. Have a look in the
panasonic-leica forum for sample images:

dansmail-

You don't mention where you live, but here in the USA the price of the highly reviewed FZ-35 is down to a record low of $220 at Amazon. It is an excellent camera, at a great price and it would make a very good replacement for your tried and true, Canon S-2.

Thanks, that FZ-35 looks great! I am in the states.

Thanks on the picture. I loved how the water drops look with her eyes.

Thanks, I ordered the fz35 from Vanns dot com for $214 no shipping or tax (Amazon charges tax in NY)! From Amazon I ordered an 8 gb sdhc class 10 card ($12.99) and a Panasonic coated lense protector for $22. It all should be here Wednesday! Thanks

Good luck with your new camera. I've owned the FZ35 for about a year now and like it alot.

One thing, when you buy from an online vendor, it's ususally a good idea to check out their vendor rating before you purchase from them. One site you can use is http://www.resellerratings.com/

dansmail26; I too had a Canon S2IS before it died. I did a lot of research and finally went with the FZ-100. Although I almost went with the FZ-35, I liked the 100 better cause of the articulating LCD screen. But, I have had my 100 for a couple of months now, and absolutely love it. It takes so much better pics than that S2 could ever have done. I think you will be really thrilled with your new FZ camera. Good luck with it, and we will be waiting to see some pics.
