Default Canon 60D with 17-85 OR Nikon D7000 with 18-105 ?

Hello all

I previously asked this forum about my camera choice, and I kindly got a lot of answers from expert. Now i Have narrowed down my choices to two cameras with lenses:

Canon 60D with Canon 17-85 lens
Nikon D7000 with Nikkor 18-105 lens

Both are offered to me at the same price (1000 Euro), though D7000 is 50 dollars more expensive.
The question is: which should I buy? I shoot portrait, fields, nature, alpine mountains, stuff like that...

These prices are offered to me until tomorrow, so I hope I get some replies from you guys

regards
Edwin

although I shoot Canon, but if you haven't invested into Canon lenses already, for the same price Nikon D7000 is a better camera.

the nikon has issues and really not a better camera once you see the real world performance. The buffer with the nikon is really small, so at 6fps you will hit the buffer lag after about 2 sec, so about 12-14 photos. The canon you get 49 photos in high burst.

The AF system on the canon is actually more accurate and fast. Couple of sites and mags have tested it. While the nikon has more AF points, it has only 9 cross type points like the canon. So in focus speed the canon out did the nikon.

Nikon's metal skin is also a miss leading thing, it only 2 of the form skin plates are metal. And the canon had improved the weather seal of the 60D over the 50D. So the camera is actually more durable.

I would go with the canon 15-85 over the 17-85. It is a bit better lens. And both will focus faster then the nikon 18-105.

With all the spec advantages the nikon did boast, popular photography has named the 60D best in class, and it competes against the d7000 and sony a580 among the new camera in the sub 1200 dollar range.

The real world stats are more important then the paper ones.

Actually the lens are very important to me. As you know i have researched about these camera bodies (along with pentax k5) a lot, considering my older post, so the question was more or less towards the lenses mentioned...

do you think 15-85 is better than 18-105?

The 15-85 is a better lens then the 18-105.

The 15-85 would be come close to L quality if it was not a crop lens. It is a excellent lens.

the 17-85 is better then the 18-135. There is allot of distortion with the 18-135.
