is this a good point and shoot to get or should i consider something else? I've read good and bad reviews for it and any advice would be appreciated.

If you are used to shooting with the Fuji EXR system, the F-300 can be a good low cost choice. However, let's be honest, some folks do not want to deal with the extra element of making manual changes within the EXR system.

And, the long and short of it is simply this: the Auto system do not achieve the best image quality. It is the EXR system where you will get the best image quality. Finally, the noise reduction system smears a lot of fine detail. Therefore the F300 is a very personal decision.
