If you want to save some money and have camera performance ver similar to the Canon 300HS, take a good look at the Canon SD4000. It is a real performer, very small and compact and capable of top level image quality.

The Canon SD4000 has also has a well powered built-in flash unit that has surprising reach as you can se demonstrated in the attached photo. The SD4000 is my carry everywhere camera, and the companion for my DSLR.

Ditto on the SD4000. I'm amazed at well this little point and shoot holds up at high ISOs. The wife at ISO 3200, no flash, f2.0 aperture mode, tungsten white balance, pass through Noiseware and sharpening.

I have decided to go with canon 300hs (ixus220hs). Its much more pocketable than the others, and although they have a bright aperture, i dont like the design and the touch interface of sd4000 and newer 500hs.
Thanks for all the replies.

The SD 4000 not a "touch interface" camera, but uses push buttons and a wheel. Price is around $215.

The Elph 300HS is a very good camera indeed and the replacement for the SD4000. Congratulations on your choice. I am sure you will enjoy the camera.
