Default Nikon P500 vs Canon SX30 IS

first of all sorry if anyone already posted the same question here, i didnt find any.

Im about to buy a SuperZoom camera to travel to Europe.
and is getting hard to decide which one. Im pretty far from being an expert but far as i know CCD usually generate better images than CMOS, or at least in the past they used to. The canon got CCD and the Nikon CMOS i think this will be the main difference, cause the Full HD video from Nikon vs the HD from canon doesnt matter too much for me. Ive seen some video showing a strange behavior of the P500 while recording with the Zoom max. A notice that P500 does have a better 16:9 configuration than SX30IS.

So any expert user could help me decide? a friend is coming from LA will bring it to Brazil to me.

Thanx

First of all I am not an expert, but if it was me at your place I would definitely go with the canon, even after being a big Nikon guy.
The canon not only has greater image quality but an f stop 2.8 is more than a bargain compared to that of the Nikon.

CMOS sensors r faster. Generally Canon rules in p&s's. However may I suggest the Panasonics FZ35,FZ40,FZ100. They r prob the best in superzooms. Check out Olympus too. They 2 have nice superzooms.

It is really a question of how much zoom you want and/or need-

The Panasonic FZ35 and FZ40 perform better and have better image quality than either the Canon SX30 or the Nikon P500, but they have less zoom. So if real image quality is your #1 priority, then I would be looking at the FZ40, followed by the FZ35.

If absolute zoom reach is your #1 priority, with image quality taking the back seat, then the SX30 is better than the P500.

Concerning the Nikon P500, you might take a look at RICHARD TUCKER'S personal website. He has some great images:

No, I do not believe that the SX30 can do a sweep panorama.

it does ... i just bought it yesterday, so far so good.
im just a little dissapoint with the LCD resolution and size.
The store has the both cam there p500 and sx30, the p500 looks cheap plastic, but the LCD is awesome 4 x more resolution than SX30.

but i must say the IS of the canon is perfect.
