Default new elph 300 hs or SD4000?

My wife uses an SD4000 and loves it; I do too (but enjoy my S95 more). With mother's day approaching, we're debating which cam to get for my mom. So, any users out there with experience on both? Opinions?

Both the ELPH 300HS and the SD4000 have about the same features, but I would lean toward the 300HS for the newer imager and processor.

Really? You think the 'new' factor out weighs the f2.0 lens (I know it's 2.0 only at widest)?

Well perhaps you should tell me more about your Mom's shooting habits??

Most Grandmothers are not serious low light photo environment photo shooters. So I allow for her shooting maybe 20% no flash , numerically high ISO shots. I own a SD4000, and am also a grandmother, so I was basing my guess on my own experience.

Is there a whole lot more detail we should know about your my and her photo experience??? I figured the 24mm, the F 2.7 lens and the 5X optical zoom would be more valuable assets.

No, you're probably right. I really have to presume everything she would shoot would be in Auto. Maybe a Scene mode here and there.

I agree. The F2.0 lens is really the only thing that made the SD4000 stand out.
