Default nikon 3100

Well, here is another one of those camera buying posts. I have read, and read and read some more and think I came to the conclusion of buying a nikon 3100, but the canon T2i and Pentax K-r were considerations. Anyway, I found a link from this site to 24hourdigital.com or something like that. They have a nikon 3100 package for $440 with free shipping and some freebies tossed in. Here is the description: Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera-18-55 MM F/3.5-5.6 3.1 x zoom lens-black. Am I missing something here? This seems like a too good to be true price. Anybody deal with this place? Thanks in advance and I appreciate all of the experienced folks posting answers to these questions to help us rookies out!

A quick google search found this:

BTW, Nikon USA will refuse to service a gray market camera (even if you are willing to pay them for the service), and when you see lower prices on Nikon gear, chances are, it's gray market (not intended for sale in the U.S).

I'd stick with Authorized Nikon USA dealers if I were you.

P.S.

Here's an old article that outlines some of the tactics used by many of the Brooklyn based operations (where they seem to be able to get away with it):

How to Buy a Digital Camera without being Robbed

Try these dealers for starters. They are authorized Nikon USA Dealers and have good reputations:

http://www.adorama.com

http://www.bhphotovideo.com

http://www.amazon.com is another good bet (provided you are buying directly from amazon.com, not one of the merchants listing gear there).

Or, try Cameta Camera on Ebay. They're an Authorized Nikon USA Dealer and sell gear intended for sale in the U.S. Note that they sell both new and refurbished gear. The refurbished cameras (factory refurbished by Nikon USA) are listed as "Sales Demos" and have a 90 Day Nikon USA Warranty, but they give you a 1 year store warranty on top of it.

Adorama (see link above) has a similar warranty on refurbished gear if you buy refurbished gear from them. Look at the listings for details. If you don't want to pay what a new camera costs, consider refurbished instead. But, I would only buy gear intended for sale in the U.S.

Most authorized dealers are going to have prices that are very close to each other on new gear. If you see a price that's much lower, there is probably a good reason for it. ;-)

WOW! Thanks for the heads up about that 24hour place. I'll definitely advoid them! I'll make sure that the place is a authorized dealer too. Looks like a couple of the links you sent to me have some fair looking deals. Thanks again.
