Default canon t2i and d3100 for same price. what would you buy ?

hi,

looking for help in terms of picture quality...

as both the cams are retailing around similar prices here in india..

say a 50$ diffrence... so what would be the choice..

taking overall performance ?

have seen t2i performing better in video and d3100 going through jello effect.

in pictures people have differint opinions.. need help..

is the 18-55 IS inferior to 18-55 nikkor VR in terms of optic quality. ?

T2i has more useful features. It does better HD, and you can shoot a EV bracket, something the d3100 can not.

thanks shotturtle.. also looking for help regarding the image quality of the same as i saw many reviews people suggesting if video go for canon but image go for nikon.

however i would like to know from all our experienced members what they think in real life scenerio.. will the image quality diffrence will be big enough in case that it might be visible on a 8 X10 print.

also few people said that the 18-55 nikkor is better than 18-55 canon

The difference in image quality will require you to crop in at 100% to even see the difference. The nikon is cleaner in noise, but not by much. The canon has better details retention. And at 8x10 you will not notice any difference. The canon also produce a better jpeg. If you are not into raw editing. The out of camera photos from the canon is better.

The lens, they are both the same in sharpness, both are good kit lenses. There are better out there. But at allot more money.

thanks again.. so i assume i will be going for the T2i as this will be my first dslr.

second i wont be working with raw as of now.. not for next few years..

third.. most of the pics will be seen on pc or tv via hdmi. selected one will go for 8 x 10.

just one more question. i have seen two types of telephoto lens for the t2i in my budget now.

55-250 (1.6x crop so ideally close to 400mm )

70-300 (1.6x so say 550 mm)

heard 70-300 isint good. if thats the case i will get the 55-250

i was going for the HS-20 but as it wont be here in india for another 50 days .. m going for the t2i..

m looking for a telephoto lens for t2i.. even if its manual i dont mind under 300 $

The ef 70-300 IS USM is a good lens form canon. The ef 75-300 USM is not a good lens. And the 70-300 form tamron and sigma are just okay.

Both the canon ef 70-300 and ef-s 55-250 are good lenses. The ef 70-300 is the better of the two. It has better reach and focus faster. Both are sharp lenses when stop down to f7.1-11

thanks again.... you solved mty confusion that has been in mind since cpl of months. ifeel light now..

m getting the t2i with 18-55 and later on say few months down will add the 70-300 usm..

thanks a lot...

i have also seen few telecons from vivitar and few others 2X .. do they really work.

as my thought says if i add the 2x on the telephoto end of 300 it will make the reach to 600.. but will it be sharp as the F stop is limited to 11.. or will it be able to focus on it the subject..

You can not use a TC on these long zoom lenses we have been talking about. They will not operate properly with the autofocus.

The ebay lens you like is one of the just okay lenses I mention. The canon's are sharper, and the canon ef 70-300 also focus faster. And the canons' have image stabilization the sigma you link does not. And i is really helpful when you are zoom pass 150mm
