Default opinions on buying a camera...

need help! I am a mom and not a professional photographer.. I want to buy a camera that takes excellent, crisp pics. I want a decent zoom. I like to photograph scenery, wildlife, as well as ppl.... any help would be grateful... I am retiring my fugi finepix s602.. The more a look, the more I get frustrated on what to get... Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

If you like Fujifilm bridge cameras, the Fujifilm HS20 is probably the
modern equivalent of your old camera. Have a look in the Fujifilm P&S
section for some excellent sample images.

Have you any particular preferences? What will you be shooting?
Your budget will get you a good Fuji bridge camera or a similar
camera from Panasonic, Canon etc... It would also get you a basic
DSLR which would have superior image quality and speed, especially
in low light.

Thanks so much Corkpix, I have no preferences.. I just want a camera that takes really nice pictures. I live where there's always deer, turkey, bear, etc... and I love photographing them. I need a half decent zoom though, sometimes you can't get as close as you'd like... I have an 8 yr. old baseball player that I like to take pictures of too. I just checked out the Fujifilm HS20, it has a few issues about the temperature warning light came on. Shutting down the camera.. I am now going to check out the link you sent...

If your budget can go a bit higher, you could check out the pentax k-x. I've been very happy with it. Like you, I have young kids and we live in a wooded area with lots of wildlife. I got my k-x for $699 including a 55-300 mm lens plus the 18-55 mm lens. This camera has been great for my basic general photography needs, including kids sporting events. It's a huge jump in quality as compared to a point and shoot. If you want truly professional looking photos, your budget will need to increase into the thousands, because you will need to buy better lenses. But, in my opinion, for a good, basic all-around general photography camera, the pentax k-x is perfect.
