Default need P&S for grad to take on Italy trip

My 18 year old son has finally agreed he should take a camera. He has never cared about owning one, but has a senior trip to take this Thur. to Italy. Looking for easy to use, no more than $250. Zoom - want at least 4x. Many pocket cameras do not seem to have viewfinders - is glare not an issue with screen only cameras?

Some cameras have this layer to make the screen easier to see in bright light while some dont. Glare in general from the screen only cameras is a problem.

You should look at the Canon PowerShot SX130. Not that pocketable, but a great camera overall.

G'day Lesajoo

Take the boy to your local camera shop and let him look at those cameras that fit his hand/fingers/eyes ... it is no good us recommending a 'beaut' camera if it is too small or too large or too whatever for him. Choosing a new camera is like choosing a pair of shoes - it must be tried for size and fit by the user/wearer

All the above said tho ... the abovementioned canon is a nice camera, so are the panasonic Lumix cameras and the FujiFilm cameras - both those with viewfinders & without viewfinders ... tho you would rarely find a 'serious' photographer NOT using the viewfinder

Hope this helps a bit
Regards, Phil
