Casio EXILIM EX-FH100 features a 40 fps high speed continuous burst and has 24mm wide angle.

realize there is no good compact digital for action shots. The best you can do is: "the best D student in the class"

John knows a lot more about photography than I do, but ...
It depends:
1. on the lighting
2. on the distance from the subject
3. on your standards (how sharp a picture do you want, how narrow a depth of field do you want)

I have a Casio ZR100. In good light, I would give it a B. It zooms from 24mm to 300mm. It can take 30 shots in 3/4 of a second. However, I would not take it over ISO 400 if I wanted an 8" X 10" print. A DSLR with a decent lens will get you much better images. If you are taking actions shots in the evening, it will get a D.

So, how demanding a photographer are you? How much can you spend? Are these action shots being taken in broad daylight or in the evening or inside a high school gym.
