Because both of them displays smeared details to some degree, which seems somewhat inevitable in CMOS cameras. I haven't paired them up side-by-side, so I'm not sure which is better in terms of IQ.

There are tons of image samples for both cameras online so have a look and see which you prefer. In terms of focus/operation speed, handling, control, design, and refinement, the FZ100 wins hands down. Sony has never built a good bridge cam and they probably never will. I am not talking IQ, but rather the overall package. Fuji isn't even a contender. Once again, I am not talking IQ.

I would like the FZ45 better it came with AA batteries.

I don't see why AA sized lithium ion batteries are not considered by the camera manufacturers, just as powerful as the supplied custom power packs, and if they die most shops sell a pack of alkaline batteries that will get you out of trouble.

.... May be a plus point for Fuji cameras

Money. Camera makers make as much - and often more - on the accessories. I'm not complaining though. One spare battery pack and I'm good to go.
