Default Inexpensive digital with manual control

I've got an interesting problem. I've been asked to start a camera club for middle school kids. Most of them don't have cameras and will have to buy something. I'd like to keep it inexpensive as possible for them.

Does anyone have suggestions as to an inexpensive digital camera that offers manual control? I suppose durability would be a big plus.

G'day mate

as an ex-schoolie my initial thoughts are "durable & school kids don't go together"

Various thoughts come to mind - and budget will be a big factor too

many $200+/- 10x zoom jobs are auto vs Program, + lots of pre-set scenes to extend the operation ... maybe that's an option

If you specifically want P-A-S-M then I guess you'll have to trawl dpreview spec sheets to see who's got what vs stocks in local shops - but I would not expect much for <$350, more like $500ea

Dunno whether this helps...
