Default D7000 with 18-105 or D5100 with 16-85?

Hello all

We are going to have a 3 weeks round trip around Europe and my brother who is sharing the trip with us wishes to buy a camera to shoot with. This is his first dslr camera. He asked me to help him. I know about the camera and lens differences of both of the choices, but just before the final decision I wanted to ask you my forum expert friends for a piece of advice on this

Nikon D7000 with 18-105
Nikon D5100 with 16-85 ?

They are at the same price tag here in Sweden (1200 Euro). He will be shooting everything ... an all around camera and lens set...

any help will be appreciated.

The 16-85 is a better lens, and if he's never handled a dSLR before, he might be more comfortable with the D5100. They both use the same 16MP image sensor, so they both take fine photos, but the D7000 is more for the advanced photographer. It has a lot of features and capabilities that will probably only get in the way of him learning to use it.
