Default Superzoom vs other P&S camera's

Hi all,

I read a lot of threads about which superzoom is 'the best' and also lots of threads discussing the difference between SLR and superzooms like the HS20 an sony hx100v.

I like to know if a superzoom delivers better quality pictures compared to a other P&S camera's.

thanx for reading,

Yoshi

You're not talking in the same realm. A P&S is WAY different than a bridge (superzoom) camera. Although the sensors are approximately the same size, the electronics involved in producing an image, the lenses, and firmware are completely different. And, it varies from camera to camera.

It's not really that simple. A camera like the S95/LX5 certainly offers better IQ than any 1/2.3" sensor bridge cam, but comapring bridge cams to other 1/2.3" P&S cams is a different story. In that case, IQ will likely depends on a number of factors, such as the focal length. P&S cams typically are more prone to distortion since they are cramming in 12-16x zoom in a pocket cam. Although it's mostly corrected for in-camera, it still has an effect on the IQ. Overall though, there isn't a significant different between the IQ of the 2 cameras, presuming they are otherwise similar. e.g. the IQ of the Panasonic ZS7 and FZ35 are very similar.
