Default How much would you spend on a used XSI?

I've got a friend selling a used Canon Rebel xsi, good condition, with just the ‎18-55mm lens and 4g & 8g card.

I am an amateur and just want nicer photos of my family. I currently am on my 2nd Sony DSC-H2 (and only needed the 2nd because of a house burglary). While I would prefer video capabilities on a SLR now that they are available I do not have the money for one. I also find myself using my phone for that anyway.

How much would you consider for this camera? Or, should I continue waiting?
Thanks!

KEH.com has XSi bodies (with battery & charger) in excellent condition for $350, but they have a 14 day return policy and a 6 month warranty.

I wouldn't spend more than that for a body, kit lens and SD Cards, but no warranty.

Buying a used dSLR is risky. There's no way to tell how much use and abuse it has received. If you trust that your friend hasn't beat the crap out of it while he's had it, then that's not a bad deal. I'd ask for at least a 7 day return policy, and use the heck out of it during that time.

Yeah. That. Adorama sells refurbished dSLRs with 90 factory warranties, except for Canons which come with a 1 year store warranty.

Thanks! $350 is what I was thinking too, as the highest t, but with nothing else with it it might be better to continue waiting. She's a photographer and does take care of her cameras so I think I'm good for that part- but if I do end up going that route I like the idea of some type of return policy just in case.
