Default So many choices...

Hi all,
I am in need of a new camera and I want to make the best decision so I come to you all for advice. I want a camera for mostly family pictures indoors and out. I have a newborn and plan to take numerous posed pictures over the years. My previous experience has been strictly point and shoot. They are okay, but to me the image quality is not great and they are slow in between pictures, therefore I am considering an SLR. If an SLR is best, I need one that is reasonably priced, has the ability to focus automatically, and easy to use. Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

To be honest, nearly all the entry level SLR's will pretty much fulfil your requirements at a reasonable price point. The three that spring to mind is the Canon 1100D,the Nikon D3100 and the Pentax K-m. All three have good image quality, though I think the Canon wins here-just. The Pentax has the best build quality, but runs on AA batteries- which personally,I don't like(however, you may....)but is very simple to use. The Nikon has a higher specification(on paper)of the three....
My advice would be to go to a camera outlet and get "touchy feely" with a few- see which feels best,is the easiest to use and see which system has the ability to expand if you so wish- lens availability(and cost),flashes, accessories etc....
