Default shutter lag

I am looking for a camera that will give me sharp, crisp photos with very little shutter lag. I am trying to photograph my grandbabies and I never get the image I think I am...it is very delayed. I don't print any photos larger than 8 x 10. I like the ease of point and shoot but would also consider a slr if that's what I need to get results. What recommendations do you have and would you ever consider a "refurbished" camera?

G'day sam's mom

Shutter lag used to be a bit of a problem early on ... when a final focus & metering was done before the 'click' > today things are much faster

Regardless of which camera you have / you choose, you might like to consider the 'burst' option on the camera > where the camera takes 3 or more photos at the same time very quickly and you select the best of the bunch for keeping/printing

As to a 'brand' - it's "take-you-pick" ... canon / panasonic / fuji / nikon / kodak - the list goes on, prices go from $100 to $1000. However I suggest that you handle prospective cameras to get an idea of their "look & feel" in your hands - it will make a huge difference in the end

Refurbished equipment - been around for decades - lots of automotive stuff is refurbished for resale, lots of laser printer carts are refurbished > the list goes on ... they all advertise "as good as new" so on that basis a refurbished camera should be just the same
