Default I ONLY care about Image Quality

Not completely true, but excellent IQ is for sure number one on my wish list. I have a Nikon d70 which I adore because it gives me good photos no matter what I do. But, I would love to find something smaller that I can carry with me all the time to take really good pictures of my kiddos, who never, ever sit still for more than 2.5 seconds, let alone pose for a shot.

I don't care so much about how many MP, or what special features the camera has. I do, though, think that I would like something that has a viewfinder. And I do enjoy using the manual mode.
My budget is around $500, but if there is something out there with amazing image quality, a viewfinder, and can track wriggly kids for less$, fabulous! Basically, I want a mini d70. Am I asking for too much, if I am willing to trade fancy features for IQ?

I have read a bit about the Canon G12 and the Lumix G3 - am I on the right track?

Any suggestions mightily appreciated!

Mmm, yes.

Also the Canon S90/S95/S100, no viewfinder but fantastic quality in a very small package.

Otherwise, there are the new mirrorless cameras. In particular the Nikon 1 series. Not very cheap but they do look to up the IQ available from a small package.

Hi- how "mini" do you want to go....?
The G12 is a fine camera- and is probably as good as image quality gets given the size of its sensor. Maybe consider Nikon's "version"...?

Seems the response is much improved over the P7000...
