Default Wife Pregnant - Need First Camera Please

We are expecting our first child. I'm looking for the best camera for our needs. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! (i searched forums but didn't see anything)...

- 1 camera to handle pictures and HD video
- Any size of camera is fine (doesn't need to be small)
- I'm a beginner, so I don't need advanced features
- Just looking for best camera that does both stills and high-res video great!
- Budget under $700

THANK YOU!!!

I would suggest a Sony NEX-5N with 18-55 kit lens.

Just make sure you get a decently long lens, and stand back a bit. Short focal length and up close... we may never see you again.
Learned this from my sister when I took photos during her pregnancy. "I look HUGE!!! Lose the camera!!!"

Got my Panasonic gf2 + 20mm f1.7 for 650 recently. I think it would fit the bill for you as well.

i did a little write up on my experience with it thus far.

Canon G11 or G12

My brothers wife has the G11 and has 2 kids 3 and 5 and loves it for her video and still needs. She carries it with a spare battery and 16GB card and she says its all she needs and she is not a much of a manual or set the parameters type shooter. She either sets it in auto or the ahutter P mode and shots away.
