Default Ski camera.

Hi, looking to buy a video camera that's suitable for a winter sports holiday.

Last season I had a Tachyon XD HC, and whilst it was impressive footage, it was annoyingly saving it in Apple's non-standard MOV format, so I couldn't edit it on anything but a PC (with Quicktime installed) or a Mac.

I have since sold that on ebay and got almost the original price for it. So have a similar budget for something that saves in a more standard format (AVC/AAC), so I can edit it on a Android tablet.

I have been looking at the Kodak Playsport Zx5. Would this be a suitable purchase? (I don't need to mount it to a helmet, handheld is fine).

They also do a more expensive "Burton" edition. However it's hard to work out what's different... Are you just paying for the name and a few useless addons?

Lastly, does anyone have any UNMODIFIED footage from the Zx5? (by unmodified, I don't mean hosted on youtube or such, I want to try and edit it, so want to test compatibility).

Thanks for any help!

just to throw another spanner in the works, I recently bought myself a new smartphone. an Xperia Arc S, it does 720p video, so I could just buy a waterproof housing. hoe would this compare to the Kodak? same ballpark?
