Default What's a Good 1st Digicam for a Child?

Howdy, Foax! My better three-quarters is contemplating a first digicam for our grandson (age 9). She initially discovered Canon's 12 MP waterproof, but decided against it as it had no zoom capability. Any suggestions? And on the same subject, can anyone recommend a first "how to" photography book for a youngster?

Thanx for your assistance!

Walt

Thanx, Peripatetic. It's a great camera, but about 2ce as pricey as I'd like at this time. Think we'll wait another year or two.

Regards, Walt

Fujifilm's XP20 is a very reasonably priced waterproof/shockproof/freezeproof camera,with a 5x optical zoom.
