Default Choice between Canon SX230 HS & SX40 HS?

Hello Steve!

Plz help me out to decide which one is better to have?

Canon Sx 230 HS (Small pocket-sized, 16x zoom, GPS & manual controls with lots of features) OR Canon SX40 HS (Impressive 35x zoom, dslr look, EVF & twisted LCD with powerful flash & latest digic processor from canon)??

Size does not matter for me! I will be shooting mostly night parties & wedding ceremonies!

Thanks in Advance!

Hi waqas- given that you will be mostly shooting night parties/weddings- do you really need a big zoom..? Don't get me wrong,I own an SX40 and I love it and it will certainly be capable of shooting what you want- but maybe even consider the svelte Canon S95 or the soon to be S100...

Thanks for the suggestion but I would prefer a bit more zoomer too for landscape shooting!! As I find to capture Nature sometimes as my interesting hobby!

Does S95/S100 shoots a RAW too?

In short, You are recommending SX40 HS & not sx230??

If price and size are of no issue, then yes,I'd definitely go for the SX40hs over the SX230.
The SX40 has a faster lens,at both ends of the zoom- and a much longer zoom at that.
f/2.7-5.8 + 24-840mm V's f/3.1-5.9 + 28-392mm. It handles a great deal better also.
Don't get me wrong- the SX230 is a fine camera- just not as versatile as the SX40.
Neither of these two shoot RAW however- though the S95/100 both do.
If RAW is important to you,as is a decent zoom- maybe take a look at the impressive Panasonic DMC FZ-150 also.
