it depends on what features your wife is looking for. the fz150 is loaded - if your wife is looking for everything from image stabilization and manual settings to the ability to shoot raw and use her zoom during videos, it's a great camera as long as she's not expecting dslr-quality photos. on the other hand, if she's not looking for all those features, the 150 is probably overkill.

does she tend to shoot in auto or does she want more control over her pics, and what kind of things does she like to shoot?

The FZ-150 may have more features than your wife may need, but she might grow into it- and the Panny would certainly allow that with so much on offer.
It also has one of the best "auto" modes- in photo and video mode.
Of course,it's the most expensive of the bunch..!

yes i believe the FZ-150 is a good camera, only problem i have with it,the price is getting close to a canon rebel t3.thats why i havent already bought it.i dont think it matches up to a t3 do you?

you're correct - the 150 won't match the t3 for low light performance or image quality, but for the t3 to match the 150 in zoom, you'd need to buy a second lens - and then your wife would either have to switch lenses when she was shooting closer or further away things, and would mean she'd have to get to know which lens was the right one to use for different locations and scenarios. or you would have to a buy a zoom lens that would cover closer and further away things - and that would raise the price quite a bit, and probably wouldn't give her as much distance.

btw, in my experience, those who prefer to use their camera in auto tend to prefer not to change lenses or worry about things like dust on the sensor.

I think she will be more than happy with the SX230. It got what most auto point-and-shooters need, in a nice little package.
