Canon make a hood for the SX40- the LH-DC60.
And a filter adapter from lensmate-

I know they make them. problem is you can only have the hood or the filter, not both. the filter adapter you recommended has the same problem. either hood, or filter.

question is, which is more useful. at this point i'm leaning to the filter option.

decided to go with the Canon adapter, the Tiffen 67mm UV adapter, pearstone extra battery (had one on my G11 from them, great quality), 8GB extreme III sd card and canon leather case...this gets expensive!

but now i'm pretty much set except for maybe a polarizer and small tripod in the future...maybe a small flash?

anyone happen to know if a battery grip has been designed for this camera? it feels like it NEEDS a battery grip. my pinky hangs off the bottom of the camera and it is not well balanced. any info on this would be highly appreciated.
