Default Camera Replacement

Newbie,
I need help finding a replacement for my Minolta Dimage S414 4.0 camera that finally died. This was the perfect camera for me, it took action photos at the races, it had a decent zoom & wide angle lens. It takes videos & it has a view finder & it's pretty compact so it fits in some of my pants pocket. So i need help finding a camera to replace it, what cameras would you guys recommend to replace it with.
Thanks,
Bill

G'day BIll

Firstly - welcome to Steves ... there's many here with a similar tale to tell
As to a replacement camera there's many a point of view here too > some will suggest a superzoom, others will suggest a dSLR. Each type of camera has its advantages

I would also suggest you look at dpreview, com at the canon - fuji - panasonic - nikon ranges of superzoom & dSLR cameras to get an idea of specs > it'll help you with some of the info about to come your way from fellow forum people

Regards, Phil

What is your price range?
Do want another point and shoot about the same size?
Do you want to shoot video?
Give us a little to work with and you'll be flooded with ideas.

John339,
I guess i would say i am looking for a point & shoot Camera. I found a couple of Camera's that might be close to what i am looking for. The Canon Powershot SX 150 IX & The Nikon Coolpix L810 (price & size is right but no viewfinder). The Canon Powershot SX40 HS & The Nikon Coolpix P510 (Nice Cameras but larger than i want) The Canon Powershot G12 & the Nikon Coolpix P7100 (Nice camera's, the size is right, but pricey) I just didn't think i would have to pay $450 dollars to replace my Minolta Dimage S414.
Thanks,
Willis

well, it won't fit in your pants pocket and is the size more or less of the sx40, but the panasonic fz-47 shoots video, has a viewfinder and isn't a bad camera at all. the problem is that 2 features are disappearing from small cameras - viewfinders and the ability to use AA batteries, and i notice a lot of people come here looking for one feature or another. i really missed having a viewfinder, and moved to micro4/3 and dslr's so i'd have one.
