Default Need help Canon XTi or T3

If you had to choose between the Canon Xti or T3 which would you choose? It will be for a beginner. Using it for pics of kids, school events, parties, vacations and every day life! Nothing professional. Was thinking about a nice point and shoot but I can these 2 for about the same price as a P&S.

But for the price of either kit, you'll get a much greater zoom range with a P&S in a smaller, lighter package. It's not a dSLR vs. P&S, it's a dSLR plus all the lenses and accessories vs. a P&S. The P&S wins everytime, unless you want to do something special, and it appears you don't.

... that is, unless the "school events" are indoors. Then you'll need a lens that costs much more than the camera.
  • The lens is the thing.
  • 'Full Frame' is the new 'Medium Format'.
