Default can Sony RX100/NEX 5N replace video from HDR-CX550

I am looking for a compact quality camera which takes solid stills and take comparable quality video to my HDR-CX550. I was originally looking at the NEX 5n w/SEL18200LE, but am intrigued with the RX100.

How does the video quality of these compare to something like my HDR? Can I replace my video cam with one of them and still be able to take comparable smooth quality shots? How do these cameras handle low light when recording?

Key areas of concern:
- smoothness/stability (I am not generally using a tripod)
- low light
- fill action scenes such as sports (filming my children)\

I have read many reviews about both the RX100 and NEX 5n, but I am not yet clear whether they can really replace my video cam. I am not looking to take longer than 30 min (which I know is the cutoff for cameras).
