There is probably no best. Trying to stay away from the extreme wide angle lenses, is probably the only thing to do. A lens with a 35mm angle would probably be good, but even that is hard to come by seeing as everyone wants wider, and wider angle lenses.

But I've noticed the decline in macro performance, with the increase in wider angle lenses. Something we have little control over. Its not that the wider angle lenses wont do macro, its the common complaint of slow focusing, and mis-focusing you see that is the result.

Can anyone suggest a camera with a lens as close to 35mm as possible? I love that my A720 was 34.8mm.

I really don't know of any camera at present, that has a 35mm minium focal length; at least that would fit your requirements. They have all went to the wide angle "cam boy fad", most now being 28mm or less.

My Sx150 focuses all right, unless the light is low. Then it wants to get a little hound doggie, that is it likes to hunt a bit.
