i recommend the canon sx 260 hs. it's got a 20x zoom with stabilization which i find very effective. videos are better than a lot of point and shoots as is image quality. whether you think it has good build quality i couldn't say, but it got the job done. i wouldn't abuse the lens on this or any other point and shoot. i was pretty happy with mine. as far as size, my husband and son felt it was too small to shoot with, but it's bigger than an elph, probably not a great fit for tight jeans pockets, but easy for any jacket pocket. i found it weakest in shooting in dark locations, but still better than some.

well under $300 on amazon right now

I'm looking for a p &s $300 or less, with at least f3.0 lens and that shoots good images. good video is also important but not critical. I have had a Panasonic zs5 for a few years, but it is hit and miss ans has a pretty slow lens (f3.5, I think). sometimes the images are great but sometimes somewhat blurry, especially at long zoom, low light, or when the subject is moving, and it takes a long time to process the picture. I don't think Newest panasonic (Zs40?) wil be much better. I was interested in Olympus sh-50 sz-30mr but some bad reviews scared me off. thanks
