Default Point and shoot with the best Auto mode? Sony RX100M2?

The Sony RX100M2 seems to be the most popular Point and shoot out. Does it also have the best auto mode? I'm looking for a point and shoot camera for the wife with the absolute best IQ without ever taking it off of auto mode. What are your recommendations?

The RX100 II is a cracking compact camera, with a very nice sensor and resulting IQ...
If you want a little more zoom range, maybe consider Panasonic's LF1- it has a smaller sensor, but that enables more zoom(28-200) and Panasonics auto mode- iA -has always been very good in my opinion- and the bonus of a little viewfinder..!

I am probably to late for your decision, but,

I think the Sony rx100ii is very very expensive to just use it in full auto.
I have had the canon G1x, currently have a canon s100 and a Sony rx100. In full auto, the G1x seems to be the best, and also has the best image quality, but is much bigger than the other two, just thought I would throw that one in.
I found the image quailty in auto on the Sony and canon close. The Sony has a better flash, and is better in low light. The Sony is also about $500 more than the current s110 canon. I found the Sony needs a little sharpening, and I do that in camera, and always use p or av mode.
