Default RIP--Loved my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8

My Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS8 died, it was a great camera. So great that I thought I would just buy another one exactly like it....BUT price went up 100 bucks since I originally purchased in 2012??? I am sure technology has changed in a couple of years. I had a Minolta Dimage, then moved over to my lumix as I wanted a smaller compact camera. I am looking for a compact camera that has a great zoom on it. I have looked at the tough, waterproof, dustproof type camera but I lose too much zoom. I like my 16x optical zoom! I ride ATV's, and the environment is pretty dirty. I want to be able to stop, take a quick pic and be on my way again. Do you think that these tough and ready type cameras will ever get a higher zoom on them??? What would you guys recommend? Last camera made it 3 years, I am ok with buying every few years. Looking to spend 100-150 bucks.

There is a difference between the sz-8 and zs -8 that I had. Wanting to spend $150 max. I have an extra battery so wanted to stick with same kind, hoping that batteries would be the same. sz had 12 zoom, my zs had 16. I am surprised they have such close model numbers!

You could look for the TZ25 (ZS15) which is more or less the same...and by all accounts has a better sensor fitted then the one in the ZS8 (less noisy).
As it's an older model now, prices should be reasonable if you can find one...

My mistake. I typed it in 3 more times before I got the right thing.

This SZ, ZS, TZ gives me fits.

Please don't let the old battery decide what you should get anew.An old battery may go bust in times to come, may be sooner than you think.

The Panasonic ZS25 (TZ35) is a good camera with 20x zoom, but it's around $190 at Amazon.com.

You would think the older models would be cheaper. TZ35 only one star with amazon and its 190, the ZS15 lots of stars but 350 bucks. I am going to do some more research, look thru my Consumer reports magazine and see what I can find there. Have to find me something within the next few weeks. Thanks everyone for some ideas.
