the extreme 32 looks like a good deal, and i have a couple of the 16s, a couple of the 8s, and my husband has one of the 8s. we've had some for quite a while - they're good cards. unless you plan to shoot lots of video, the 32 should be plenty.

Cool.

Looking at keh right now The camera comes with a battery and charger. A search for ZS30 fins a battery charger ($12), battery ($4), and instructions ($3), all from Panasonic and in "EX" condition. Would it make sense to purchase any of those accessories from them along with the camera?

i sometimes get extra batteries. do you need a print manual? i prefer PDFs myself, and you can download the basic and advanced manuals right now from panasonic.

Good point. I guess i thought the refurbished camera would come with the instructions. The question is, if i get the extra battery, that would mean i would have a camera (which is a charger?) a charger, and two batteries. So, i wouldn't need to buy anything else battery or charger related, right? I also have a niggling doubt if the battery is used and thus will not work as well. But for $4...

FWIW, i just ordered the camera over the phone. Apparently, phone orders get into the queue faster. I bought the camera (w/ charger and battery) and the extra battery. I'll download the instructions as a PDF. I also bought the Extreme 32 GB from Amazon.

Thank you for all the help. I hope this all turns out well.

I guess i could share some pictures. Can't imagine what interest you'd have in my unskilled hand though.

i enjoy other people's photography and my own, as everyone - whether skilled or not - has their own unique worldview. i also enjoy seeing the technical results from a variety of cameras, which explains why i hang out on gear boards ;-)

and since you and i have spent time on what camera you might buy, it would be nice to see a pic showing that the camera has potential to be the camera you want it to be. also, if you run into an issue that turns out to be technical, maybe we could help.

OK, ok, you twisted my arm.

Besides, it'll give me more impetus to have fun those first few days.

I assume there's a different forum for that. I haven't looked around here much.

Got it today.

Camera is fine except for a .6 cm scratch in upper left corner of screen.
Lumix strap is nice.
Battery is "EZO Power"
Charger is "Capture The Spot"
Charging takes 2+ hours.
I bought an extra Panasonic battery. Strange that wasn't the one included.

Startup is fast, and the picture on the screen looks very nice.
Setting up wi-fi is a pain. I have a long password and the entry screen is not conducive to typing it in.

Methinks had i tried this in a store first, i would have walked away simply because of the convoluted wi-fi menus and tedious screens.
