Default Advice please!

Hi all,
I love taking pictures but am not a photographer; I currently use a Nikon P510 and love it. I get great pictures, great camera.
I am in the market for a smaller camera. I am looking for:

* smaller camera, one I can slip in my purse
* would like at least a 24x zoom
* ease of use
* image stabilization is a plus
* view finder also a plus
* hoping to spend $400 or less

after reading a couple posts here, I was looking for a Panasonic ZS 40, 45, 50 and 60 (leaning towards the 50). I realized that the mega pixels are only 12.1, if I remember correctly, for the 50.

The ZS 50 has less megapixels than the other ones I mentioned and less than my current camera. Does that mean "worse' pictures? The 50 seems to be well recommended but if the less MP is important, I'll disregard it.

I'm open to anything except the nikon I saw at Best buy; you had to open the LCD screen to the side & I won't like that.

Thanks in advance! I'll most likely have to order online.No camera stores here. We drove an hour today, was at a camera store for 10min before the smoke alarm went off & fore trucks came!

No, less mp doesn't mean worse pictures. In a small sensor camera like the ZS50, it's more an advantage, as you will have less noise in low light pics.
The ZS50 is a good travel zoom.

Thank you, Rudi.

Do you have any suggestions for a camera other than the Panasonic's I mentioned?
