Is the Powershot S series going away? I'm worried about when I might need to replace my S120. For those of us who need a good machine that can be carried in a bike jersey pocket or jeans pocket. If I had to buy today (other than the S120), the choice is a G7X Mark II or a G9X. I don't like the choice. The G7X weighs a whopping 10.7 ounces (S120 is 7.65), while the G7X Mark II has a 20 megapixel sensor, which is over the top for me. 12 is fine.

I don't want to change brands--a second ecosystem would never fit in my brain. Any thoughts, people?

You'll have to compromise, as you won't find what you are looking for in recent cameras.
The Sony RX100 is a small camera with an excellent IQ.

Rudimaes--interesting you say that. The only time in the last 30 years that I stepped outside Canon was to buy an RX100, when it was a new model. It was very impressive. But for some reason I can't even recall, I decided to return it for a Canon. Maybe I was just too lazy at the time to jump in and immerse myself in it. So now you have me thinking... So, thanks for your input.

you can go for Canon PowerShot S120.
it has 100% higher resolution screen, 2 fps faster and 30 more frames with a single charge.
You can easily google this camera to get detailed information about it.
Hope that helps.

I could not do better than what "BILLY" says

Personally I have compacts, quality just isn't there for me

But having said that I do carry a Nikon compact in the car

If what you have suits you why change / buy another

As the OP, I see this thread is still active so I thought I would repost. I still have my old Canon S110 but unless I am taking pictures where I need to zoom my Samsung Galaxy S7 seems to take better pictures these days in almost every situation. There have been a number of times on trips where I was unable to get good pictures in poor lighting conditions, or even outdoor pics in the shade. Yet my phone would take pics just fine. And it seems that the Canon S110 series of cameras is not made anymore. Since my original post over a year ago, is there any new camera out there that I might want to look at ?

Mostly for taking nature photos, mountains, etc. My Samsung Galaxy phone can take some great pictures, but of course no zoom. It just frustrates me sometimes in certain outdoor situations like no sun due to cloud cover, or some night photos I find my phone taking the better picture. I've always had Canons. I was looking at maybe the PowerShot SX730 with the 40x zoom ?
