hi i am going to buy my first dogital camera, i really want a camera with a good optical zoom, i read the reviews for Minolta Z2 and the kodak DX6490, i will use the cameras for trips, some sports and concerts, wich one did you like more for those type of events? i saw the DX6490 for 350$ with the rechargable battery and a DC plug, and the Minolta Z2 for about the same price but with alkaline batteries so i will have to buy some rechargables batteries about 50$ more. worth
the z2 the few dollars more? thanks for helping me!!!:?:

With the Z2, you get manual focus, or you could even wait until the Z3 comes out next month.

Rechargable AA batteries for $50? You could go down to WalMart or anywhere else and get some for like $10. Also, at least some Kodaks require a certain type of battery that is somewhat expensive and hard to find, something to consider if you want a spare or new battery. I'm not sure if the 6490 uses that type or not.

thanks both of you for ythe help, i was no taking on consideration the spare batery for the kodak, the 50$ is for a rapid charge with 4 ni-hm batteries of 2400amp, i am going to wait for a while to see how much will cost the z3, if it is too much i will buy the Z2, thanks again

Just recieved my Z2 a few day ago and I love it. I really like all the manual features on the Z2 however I really not familiar with the Kodak. One thing I know most others don't have is the macro features the Z2 has and they are wonderful (if you ever plan on taking super close ups). Waiting for the Z3 might be good because now you will have image stablality that you dont really have with the Z2.

As for the batteries, I got an Energizer 30-minute charger with 4 1850maH AA's for $28 at Wal-Mart, and that's the regular price. I definitely see the benefit of 2400, but the 1850's last seemingly forever in my Z2.

Just sold my Kodak 6490, and am waiting for the Z3. I even considered grtting the Z2 after I sold the 6490, but the Z3 beats out the [email protected] and the Kodak - several reasons - 1st, I love macro photography. The Kodak only goes down to 4 or 5 inches - for me, not close enough. The Z2 is half of that, and the new Z3 is good to 1 cm (less than 1/2 an inch). The Z3 has image stabilization - lets you shoot at about 2 - 3 speeds slower and still get a sharp image. The Z3 does 12X zoom, the other two are 10 X - I like zoom too. Also, the Z3 advertises the fastest zoom in it's class. I agree with the other posters too - rechargeable batteries aren't that expensive, and they are good for hundreds of recharges. There are a few other enhancements with the Z3 - video mode, new lens, etc. but even though I'm waiting for the Z3, if I had to do it over again, I would probably get the Z2 over the Kodak, even though the Kodak is a good camera - just a little slow to process the image, and not enough macro.

Good Luck

Gary
