:? Please help me make a decision. A friend highly recommeded the Olympus but I have heard great things about the Canon S1 IS. This will be my first digital camera. I can't make a decision.

The majority of time I would use the camera to take pictures of my kids or landscapes and I wouldn't probably ever print anything larger than an 8X10 although most of the prints would be 4x6.

Hi I have owned the S1-IS for some time now(4Mths) and find it to be a great camera for shooting photos of Kids. The main Difference for me when I looked at these 2 cameras was that the S1 had image stabilization which is a great thing in a long zoom camera and the Movie mode which is not proper digital video quality but still great for a quick clip of kids doing something cute(And bettter than the majority of whats on Funniest home video shows). The OLy 750 movie mode is not evan close to the canons (0ly 770s is pretty close).

I am sure you will be happy with either as they are both good quality cameras .

You may want to wait for the Panasonic DMC-FZ20...it will probably be the new leader in this area of the market in terms of features...can't say about picture quality yet as no one has reviewed it yet.

I admit I love my C-700 and the 7xx series, but the Panasonic is tempting.

As for movie modes, if you are serious about this feature you should consider a camcorder for that use.
