I own a Nikon 8700 and it is a turkey. None of the 8mp consumer digital cameras have done well. Save some money and a lot of frustration.

Between those 2, I'd go with the Minolta A2, simply for the longer zoom and manual operation, as opposed to the motorized buttons of the Olympus.

what do you want from the camera?

the Oly possibly has the better lens and is a more compact unit.

but the Minolta has a longer zoom, a manualzooming ring (for that 'real camera' feel) a better EVF, anti shake....

i think that the Minolta is viewed as being closer to an SLR replacement - but its shape means that it is not particularly compact.

having considered it long and hard, i opted not to get an 8mp prosumer and got a D70. but that suited my needs - yours may be different.
