I am about to purchase my second digital camera. My first was an Olympus Camedia D510-Zoom, a 2.1 megapixel camera that I have enjoyed using. I have taken some wonderful photos with it and considering the low pixels, the quality of my photos has been quite good. I have also enjoyed the quality of photos taken in 'low light' situations which was one of the reasons I choose this particular camera. I have had it for 4 years now and sadly, my kids dropped it and it now is unuseable!

So I need to get a new digital and of course, feel that I am ready for an upgrade in pixels and also in zoom. I am looking at the 10X zoom camera's but definitely want the IS feature. So the two I have been looking at are, the new Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 and the Canon Powershot S1 IS. I like the fact that the KM has more pixels and a larger zoom than the Canon but the Canon also has acceptable features to me so I would like to know if anyone can compare these two cameras for me. I am interested in knowing how each performs in 'low light' situations, ease of use, comfort in the hand, speed, picture quality, etc. Which of these cameras do you like best and which do you feel is the better value? Are there any other camera's with a 10X zoom and IS that I should be looking at? I don't mind paying the higher sticker price for the KM but I want to know that it is worth the extra bucks. I am having trouble finding much info on the KM but what I have read about the Canon has been good for the most part.
Any info would be much appreciated!!! Thank you.

I got my hands on an S1 last night for the first time at the Wal-Mart where I work. 2 of us were helping a Newcomer to digital set it up. I really like this cameras ergonomics & would like to have one made similar, but with these features:

6.0 MP & Black finish with a larger flip out viewfinder.

By the way, that viewfinder & the Canon optics would put me with the Canon over the Minolta. Plus, there is also the Canon DiGic image chip or whatever it is. Seems like I read a post somewhere (a while back)that the Minolta was too much plastic. On the Canon, when you take a pix vertical, the camera displays it in the LCD screen as vertical just like my 300D does.
And, don't forget - the A80 is discontinued & if you can find one at $279.00 or cheaper from a Reliable source, I say get that! It is 4 MP & does an excellent job. Unless you need the Image Stabilization, then go with the S1.

Have you looked at the Panasonic DCM-FZ 20? It has 12 zoom with OIS and 5MP. Nice lens and lots of manual controls. Much better than the Canon or Minolta.
Here's a review.http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/pa...ew/index.shtml

Thanks. I have read that review about the FZ20 and it sounds like a great camera! I have almost decided that this is the camera for me. A bit more than I was hoping to spend but well worth it from what I have read. My only concern is that I might have trouble finding in here in Canada and will have to wait till stores carry it. Does anyone one of a good source here in Ontario for this camera?

I live in Alberta and the FZ20's just arrived at the camera stores on Friday (Oct 1st). They are selling for 899.00 CAD. Went to see one yesterday to see if I like the look and feel. I think I will be purchasing one next week. I am not sure if the 'Big Box' stores will be carrying them or not.

Which camera stores in Alberta are carrying the FZ20? I haven't been able to locate one. (I am in Edmonton)

The only drawbacks I see on the Panasonic - it uses SD cards, which cost more than Compact Flash cards & it cannot use 'AA' batteries.

That's what pretty much sealed the deal for me since I already had a basket of

NiMH AA's and CF cards. That and I couldn't get the FZ-3 when I was looking. I'm

no pro, but I like the S1 for what I need it to do.
